New Year, No New News

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2017 has been good to you in its first two weeks. It's been a while and I wanted to give a little bit of an update. In some ways, a lot has changed, and in others, frustratingly little has.

For the one big change, I began a new job in the first week of January with the Lung Association! This was an opportunity that first presented itself in August, when I emailed about being on their volunteer board. After a short conversation, it was instead mentioned that there might be a job for me there. I was interviewed at the end of November and we talked back and forth all throughout December about whether it was the right decision for everyone involved to take the job. But here I am! They wanted me for as long as I can be there and I'm very excited to do what I can! It's been a busy two weeks already and I'm happy to be a part of a great team.

Now, for the frustratingly little. We're still waiting to hear from Toronto about dates for the consultation. I spoke to our transplant coordinator here in Winnipeg, and heard from her that the Toronto lung team is waiting to hear from the Toronto liver team. When she tried to contact the Toronto liver team, she didn't hear anything back. So, we're here and we're waiting. Daniel got a bit of a cold after all of the Christmas festivities that set him back a little, and he tried to wean himself off of his painkillers too quickly, resulting in a few pretty terrible weeks. Right now, we're having an unexpectedly lazy Saturday as his oxygen has been lower and his pulse higher this week. That and the extreme cold in Winnipeg has made it very difficult for Daniel to get out of the house.

2017 brings with it more uncertainty than 2016 did before it, but we're hopeful that some of that uncertainty will be resolved before long.

Lots of love and best wishes for 2017!

Laura
