Laura's Story

Probably the first thing you've noticed already is that I'm a girl of many hairstyles. The second thing is probably that I love to laugh and smile. It's easy to do around Daniel and the struggles we've had only make me smile that much bigger and laugh that much louder when I get the chance.

I don't think I could have imagined everything that has happened since I fell in love with Daniel. Sometimes it's hard to recognize who I was six months ago, let alone five or more years ago when we started dating. Before Daniel, my dreams were different: get my PhD, be a professor, move out of Winnipeg. I wouldn't say that Daniel has changed those dreams, but they have definitely shifted. My love for education is melding with my passion for healthcare through Daniel and my job at the Lung Association. I catch myself daydreaming not about getting my PhD, but going through medical school. I thought I'd publish academic articles on 16th century plays, but now poetry and short stories are what I'm writing. We still want to move out of Winnipeg, but we're humbled by the community we have around us here.

I guess what I'm saying is that love has changed me in ways I couldn't imagine. I know that sounds pretty cliche and super corny, but if it wasn't for Daniel, I wouldn't be going through the process to donate one of my kidneys. So that's my story. I'm excited to see where it takes me (and Daniel) and I hope you are too!
