Happy Thanksgiving...From the Hospital

So, this update is a lot sooner than we all expected, but it's been a tough week. Daniel cracked a rib a few weeks ago and dealing with the pain has been especially hard this time around. On Sunday, the pain was still bad and he was more out of breath than usual, unable to walk more than a few feet. This week saw Daniel make two trips to the hospital on Monday and then Thursday, to try and get more help dealing with the pain. On Thursday, they also started treating him for a suspected infection, meaning a week of IV antibiotics and daily trips to Cancer Care. This morning, he woke up with almost unbearable pain and it took an enormous amount of energy to get his shirt on, never mind out the door. After a few phone calls and a lot of texts to my dad who took Daniel in, I decided I needed to go and make sure Daniel was admitted and left work early.

I just got home from, what I guess you can call, a successful trip to the hospital. Daniel is up in GD6, his old BMT ward where they can treat his infection and manage his pain better than we can at home. Hopefully it will be a short stay, but it will be at least the weekend, meaning we'll spend Thanksgiving together in a small (but thankfully private) hospital room. What we can be thankful for is our healthcare system and that we have access to a system that can step in when we need a little bit of help.

We'll keep you updated as things progress, and hopefully he'll be out sometime next week infection-free and with a more manageable level of pain.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Laura
